New infrastructure was laid in the traditional city center and the treated part of the original landfill, and will later extend to the new waterfront district. Solidere implements these works on behalf of the State in return for land in the waterfront district.
The city center is equipped with a 3.6-km ring road comprising three major axes bordering it, 8.4 km of primary roads and 16.6 km of secondary, tertiary and pedestrian roads; new utility networks and public car parks; quality hardscaping and street furniture including signage, traffic lights and street lighting. Amenities for the convenience of users include structural features, fire safety and access for the disabled.
The city center has thus reemerged as a functioning urban district, encouraging property restoration, development and occupation. Solidere renders site logistics services, such as cleaning, safety, security and traffic management, and operates and maintains infrastructure at its own expense until its final handover to concerned public authorities.
Solidere completed civil works for telecommunications networks with cable TV and telephone services, and Beirut city center is about to become an internet hot zone, with a fiber optic broadband network offering a wide range of services, including high-speed internet, IPTV, video on demand, video conferencing, closed-circuit television services and a data center.
