Main Statistics

The Beirut city center reconstruction and development project covers 191 hectares (472 acres): 118 ha (292 acres) originally constituting the traditional city center, plus a 73-ha (180 acre) extension being reclaimed from the sea.

Around 98 ha (242 acres) will consist of public space: 59 ha (146 acres) in roads and 39 ha (96 acres) in public open space.

Approximately 93 ha (230 acres) are allocated for development, including about 22 ha (54 acres) of retained, religious or state property.

The master plan provides an urban design framework for these superstructures and prescribes a mix of land uses within a total development target of 4.69 million sq m (50.5 million sq ft) of floor space. The guidelines for the various end-uses, modifiable depending on market conditions, are shown here.
