Beirut City Center Heritage Trail - Segment Two

Visitors will stroll along: Weygand street, site of the Municipality and of Al Omari and Emir Assaf mosques Nejmeh Square and the pedestrian Maarad arcades which lead to the Grand Theatre historic building the Cardo Maximus, with its archeological vestiges, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, medieval and Ottoman; the Emir Assaf and Mohamad Al Amin mosques; the two St George cathedrals, St Elias church and the Nouriyeh sanctuary. An archeology gallery and information center will display artifacts from the site. Hadîqat as-Samâh (Garden of Forgiveness) is being landscaped on the presumed site of Emir Fakhreddine's seventeenth-century gardens, following an international competition. Protecting the wealth of archeology and displaying it in a natural setting, the design creates a magical space providing a haven in the tradition of the paradise garden, calm and uplifting, a place for both solitary reflection and communal togetherness.
